Doctors Nursing team Management & support staff

Doctors

Dr Marcus van Dam

Dr van Dam worked as a paramedic before becoming a doctor. Prior to completing his medical training he undertook and published research in molecular biology. He qualified at the Free University of Berlin in 1997 and gained his GMC registration the following year. After completing his GP training in Scarborough Dr van Dam joined Danby Surgery in 2004. He is a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and is involved in training new GPs.

Dr Philip Park

Dr Park qualified at Leeds University Medical School in 1993, gaining GMC registration in 1995. He did his GP training in Scarborough, finishing in 1998, with his last GP training job at Egton Surgery. He moved to be a GP on King Island, Tasmania for three years, gaining Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine in 2003. He worked in Guisborough for 13 years, then worked in clinical research before joining Danby Surgery in March 2020.

Nursing team

Practice Nurse – Karen Moss
Karen is our practice nurse, she qualified as a RGN in 1976 and holds diplomas in palliative care, diabetes management and women’s health issues. Her special interest is patient education.

Healthcare Assistants – Lauren Chapman and Karen Joiner
Lauren and Karen are available for blood and urine tests, ECGs, dressings and a number of other nursing tasks.

Community Practice Nurse – Judy Atherton
Judy visits patients in their own homes on behalf of the practice.

Community Nurses
The community (or district) nurses are part of Whitby Community Services team.

* Thursday is our half day and calls are answered by Egton Surgery from 12.00.
